    TD5 acceleration whistle

The information here says that it is more than likely to be leaking exhaust manifold and gasket.
At the moment all I have done is remove the heat shield and checked for missing nuts. all looks ok. No black soot.

Is there anything else that fails that sounds like this?

When I get the exhaust off. I intend to remove the webs. A lot of you guys say to ceramic coat the header before I put it back on.

CIC have quoted $260 plus GST for double coating because it is turbo diesel. Does this price sound ok?

Anyone know roughly how much to face the manifold and where to get this done in Wa?

Had a WRX that sucked a piece of broken rubber intake hose into the compressor and bent a blade or two. That whistled and cost a few horsepower.

Power stills seems to be ok. Just annoying with the noise. I hope that it has not sucked anything in. I had a couple of loose hose clamps. Inter cooler hose and turbo intake hose.

Take the heat shield off. Put your head near it (a safe distance away), have someone start the engine and rev it. Can you hear the whistle coming from the exhaust manifold area?

A bad leak can even be seen as the soot escapes when reved.

When the unis on my front prop shaft were failing, the sound under acceleration was like a leaky manifold.
    Check the double cardon joint.

Yep. Just revving engine in driveway does NOT replicate the noise like the road. Has just started doing it so no soot trail yet. When I first got the car EGR blanking plate was not tight and the flex joint was cracked.

similar but not quite the same noises.
belt pulley. Just went and checked them. they seem ok.
Drive shaft. Not so much clicking more whistle sound.

I found when my manifold started leaking it would whistle on take off but after 10 minutes of driving it had expanded enough to stop the noise for good.
Let the car sit an hour and it would be back.

It started making a noise I just turned around and took it home. Take the next vehicle. It did not get a chance to get hot so I don't know if it goes away.
