    O2 sensors buggered after exhaust fix?

    So had a large exhaust leak from some off-roading that I had fixed on weekend. Exhaust piece from headers to muffler was removed and cracks welded up, then reinstalled.

    Now, all great noise wise. But the car idles rough, heaps of black crap out the tail and the scangauge is calling up both 130 and 150 faults (O2 sensors both sides)

    Any reason they should be both stuffed? Only one side of the pipe was worked on. Sensors were unplugged properly and then plugged back in.

    Do I need to replace both? Could it be the 'sensor safe' gasket sealant playing silly with the sensors?

    The sensors shouldn't need sealant as far as I am aware of, maybe the sensor safe sealant was applied too thick and on tightening the sealant has blocked the small sensor slits????
    Only removing them will tell, simply unplug and unscrew them, all should be revealed hopefully

    Sorry. Sensors weren't removed. I meant the sealant at the header gasket.

    Check the connectors. I had a similar issue with faults on both sensors after they were reconnected.
    One of the pins on bank 1 had been pushed through and the retainer in the plug was broken. It caused faults on both sides.

    2nd that, the connectors are sometimes difficult to connect, maybe they are not fully pushed together?

    Are the sensors connected to the correct plug ie LH to LH and RH to RH/

    I would be hard to get them mixed up as the wiring loom and connector are on a bracket and bolted to the bellhousing, you would not have enough length of the O2 sensor to reach the other side over the back of the motor or underneath the sump/ bellhousing. The sensor leads only allow enough length to clip them onto the bracket clip above each exhaust.

    Yep. And as said they weren't removed. I'll check connectors today. I've already ordered new ones from the UK so will have a backup solution if not the connectors.
