This fault returns every time;
FAULT 28-02 injector 2 peack charcge short (CURRENT)
Other than a failed injector, is there something else I could check?
Seeing as I replaced the harness with an older cleaned one it would appear unlikely to be that.
Perhaps I'll swop the harness again and see if it makes a difference?

(looking for and checking earth points!)

The CKP is located on the upper side of the bellhousing - above the starter motor and below the fuel pressure regulator (which can drip diesel onto the CKP if it leaks).

There's some info on the wiring to the CKP here: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-...or-wiring.html

Maybe worth a check.

Another stab in the dark - try going for a drive and once above 40Kmh use the cruise control only - ie don't touch the accelerator.

This will tell you if the electronic throttle pedal assembly is playing up. If it runs fine on cruise control then it's faulty.

Hi Simon,

I did have an FPR leak for quite a while and suspect that the CKP may have been well and truly drenched (it was leaking for quite some time).

Thanks for the link - now I know what to look for.

Do you know if the removal/refit of the CKP is a straightforward job of are there some tricks/pitfalls to be aware of?

I had a injector loom that caused missus but had no oil in it. Unplugging and plugging in again fixed the problem once. The second time I bent the connectors closed a little to make them a tighter fit and ordered a spare harness. Third time I put my spare harness in. All without any oil in the harness.

The washer or lack of it sets the air gap.

Edit: I wouild expect a low output CKP sensor to cause more than just lumpiness - such as hard to start and poor running at mid-range revs. Some other vehicles' CKP sensors become susceptible to heat so work again when cooled with a squirt of WD40 or fizzy drink but the TD5's seems very reliable by comparison.

On the Disco, the CKP, is not the easiest to get to or even see. (Defender is a lot easier) I think the Disco one you need to get to from underneath. If you feel up the drivers side of the bell housing up towards the front of it and maybe 3/4 of the way up to the top you should feel it. From memory it has 10mm bolts holding it and if you take it off the washer is vital. I have had a flakey one and it logged a CKP fault though.

Hi Tim,

I found it and was able to reach it from the top (I'm used to the contortions from having the FPR in and out 4 times of late :-)

I unplugged it and sprayed the male and female plugs liberally with contact cleaner - the FPR had been leaking on it for a while - made no difference.

Rocker cover off one more time - change the loom again and if no result, flat top back to Adelaide with a suspected crook #2 injector.

OK, swapped the under rocker cover loom back to the original and it has made no difference either.

I've now exhausted all my options - looks like I'll have to call the RACV and get a flat top to take us to Adelaide for a replacement injector :-(
