Any one fitted the 2.8 stroker TD5 upgrade?

Anyone done it, did you have to mortgage the home to pay for it? Bob

    I want one.

Anyone want to buy a slightly used wife, ratbag son, kidney, half a liver?

I would hate to think how much that would be.....

Just looked on Facebook, not much change out of 18k.........8k just for rods and crank....

And then you need to do the auto, diffs etc etc.

Wow, you would want to be seriously in love with your td5, or so rich that it didn't matter......

Compound turbos would cost a fraction of that.

How much extra performance can 300cc add?

For that sort of dollars there's a lot better engines I would try and fit rather...

What would be a better/ cheaper alternative? Recondition the existing engine, buy a reconditioned engine, etc. I don't have to, just thinking down the track, soon I'll be very close to 400,000 KM's , like a good boy scout, I'd like to be prepared. I want to keep the old girl, she's been good to me, Bob

With an $18,000.00 budget? Personally I wouldn't bother, there's a lot better uses for $18,000.00 - that's more than most D2's are worth!

But, the D2 has space for a V8. There's plenty of diesel V8 options that could be considered for fitment into the D2 with that sort of budget. Would give you better bang than a 2.5L or 2.8L 5 cylinder.

Personally I'd look at compound turbocharging the TD5 (one turbo feeding another), tune to the limits of the (manual) gearbox and pocket the remaining $15k.

Most of the big diesel V8's don't suit my needs. The VAG ones are heaps better than the Toyota's. The RR ones are animals but I think far too much engine for a Defender or D2.

I personally think the TD5, properly maintained, and serviced, is one of the best diesel engines around. Much more economical than a V8, mine is a 1999 model, never had the head lifted, and just normal wear & tear maintenance. Almost all of which I am now capable of doing, all be it slowly. It's the old story, look after it, it will look after you, Bob
