D2a M & S Lights, hazards constant and no power to OBDII

Ok so I have purchased a 2003 TD5 Auto Discovery with 270000 on the clock.
It's completely stock minus some trim and pretty rough condition all round.

I have a number of problems that could well be related so here goes, I'll do my best to explain it in a comprehensible manner.

The issue is not intermittent, it is constant, I can not get rid of it as yet.
The Green M & S lights are flashing
    The Hazzards flash constant
and there is no 12v feed to the OBD2 port.

Other then the above and other minor issues, the vehicle still starts normal and runs fine. Ofcourse it is in limp mode so stuck in third gear due to the M & S lights.

    Things I have done in an effort to rectify the faults are;
    • Removed, cleaned and replaced XYZ switch
    • Replaced ~5L of auto trans fluid and fitted a new filter
    • Adjusted the XYZ Switch
    • Tested the inertia switch, shorted pins 1 & 3

All the above have had no effect on the issues.

Today I am charging the battery as it seems fairly new and holds a charge and starts the car easily, but I have noticed the terminals are loose so may just replace them.

I am unsure if some or all of these items could be related.

With the help of a mate we bridged 12V from the fuse panel to the ODBII port and were able to read codes with an older nanocom unit, although it was a bit glitchy at times and failed to connect a lot.

The unit was primarily used for a TD5 defender so am not 100% sure if it has the capabilities to communicate with all the ECUs present on the 2003 D2a?

I have held off buying a Nanocom Evolution until I can confirm the above and correct the issue of no power to the OBDII port as I feel that this could be the main fault to cause the issues above? I could be completely wrong thou!

Any tips on how I should proceed would be much appreciated.
If I could just get the hazards to stop and the thing out of limp mode I would be a lot happier to start fixing the other minor issues.

    Cheers

Hi Grimace. The OBD2 port 12v is fused. Have you checked the fuse ? My older nanocom was very glitchy too sometimes. It did however work, sometimes you just needed patience. It's fine for the D2a (which I have). The newer Evo unit, which I purchased several months ago works much much better .... Hardly any glitches at all.

XYZ is either the switch itself or the wiring loom is prone to rubbing through. Trace from switch back. You need to reset the fault using the auto gearbox module of the nanocom. If the nanocom you used doesn't have the auto module it needs to be updated. The Evo does the auto gearbox ok.

Get the EVO. It will make your job much easier.

    What Kev said.
Battery would be my guess, they do strange things in Td5 autos.

The Nanocom Evo if purchased for a Defender will not do anything on a Disco except the TD5. If the earlier Nanocom is the same, even if you sort the OBD plug it will not fix the M&S lights.

I had the same on Disco 2 I had a few years ago. It was the cabling close to the ecu damaged by mice chewing on the wires

If you see mouse poo under the bonnet it could be worth checking your loom for damage.

Just saw your other post on the fuel gauge- The other problems you are having are possibly related
During the investigation which, in my case, was mouse damaged wires, it was suggested to me a faulty fuel pump may give these symptoms.
Maybe someone out there knows a bit more about this problem

Thank you for all the feedback guys. Will borrow/buy the correct nanocom to clear the m&s.

Have checked all the fuses and replaced any that were blown. But still no power to the OBDII.

Any one think the hazards constantly flashing is another issue. I forgot to test the actual hazards switch but with it removed the hazards continued to flash so assume that's not the problem.

I have done this. There was a lot of oil at the red plug when first removed.

I have ordered a new injector harness and will be replacing that shortly as well.

Grimace, remove the fuse box from under the dash and check it for water ingress/ corrosion. I recently had a d2 with a windscreen leak that caused similar problems, the fuse box shorted and burnt away some of the circuit board and connections. It is a non repairable item unfortunately. I'd reckon bundalene may have one?
