Dave.
I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Yes I know, I used to have it blanked at the cooler, prior to the new head.
I know there is genuine part/bung supplied by LR to blank it.
some will blank it off, others will leave it connected.
The diagram for that 04 td5... well about half that plumbing is different to mine (1999 TD5)
Interestingly, part 32 in that diagram, the steel pipe around the back of the head is still there & returns to the header as the regular D2a does (via EGR cooler from oil cooler), according to the pic the other end of the steel pipe hooks onto a weird T-piece, instead of the oil cooler
It's just a personal choice, & i chose to reconnect, it certainly wont hurt anything.
P.S
I was going to say i'd hate to be trying to order a set of hoses for that MY04 td5...
Then I read this from the last MY04 td5 post
"All done over the Weekend new water pump, new hoses, had to make a few out of silicon hose as couldnt get from Landrover as know one seen before"
Very strange!!

Part 32 in the said diagram is a rubber pipe off the expansion tank unique to the 04...
Theres nothing connected at the oil cooler.
So you have piped the oil cooler hot coolant connection (admitantly not as hot as the head outlet) to the fuel cooler feed pipe which relies on the cooled coolant from the rad to cool the fuel
The secret hose did originally flow to the fuel cooler only after it was cooled via the separate lower section of the eu2 rad![]()
For one, that coolant coming out of the secret hose has come straight from the water pump, the w'pump flows straight into the oil cooler from the block.
It also has much cooler coolant flow from the bottom of the Radiator mixing at the T-piece join.
Apart from all that , as Ive already stated,
your regular EU3 flow setup goes oil cooler - EGR cooler & back to the expansion tank, so it doesn't get near the radiator...
Ive monitored both coolant & fuel temps with Hawkeye, the fuel temps have stayed well, well below the coolant temps so im happy & not going to enter into a debate about it.
If one day I choose to blank off the oil cooler again, I can as ive drilled no holes in the radiator spigot, I can simply replace or join the radiator/fuel cooler hose.
I wish i'd pulled the tank off my old radiator to have a look inside, when i shoved the hose in the spigot it came out the top end instantly, i don't think the radiator done much cooling to this..
the spigots are on the same side

The coolant pump washes coolant thru the block core holes before and that oil cooler would add to the temp.
I imagine the EU3 EGR cooler coolant flow would be limited by the small return hose to the expansion tank?
The EU2 rad has a divider between the flow and return on that side to direct coolant across the rad core and back.
I recently blanked off my drilled rad and oil cooler outlet and made the difference of a 2degC at the ECT.
I conclude the coolant flow thru the oil cooler is only robbing flow thru the engine and radiator.
Come on Summer!
Well, I just had my oil cooler & water pump removed together & done lots of flushing with the garden hose, with the head removed
the water pump bracket is sealed to the block by an oring, coolant goes from the pump through a large cavity directly into oil cooler, then forced through the 3 large block holes into the block...
Does not the pump push coolant into the front core hole then wash thru the rear three?
