    Thanks D2dave this is how I understand the flow to be.

    Coolant flow to the EU2 fuel cooler from the oil cooler only happens when the fuel cooler thermostat opens at 82C

    1000's of EU3 td5's were built without EGR coolers (South Africa eg) and blanked off oil coolers

    LR TSB suggests you blank off oil cooler flow when fitting new rad.

    Diverting <5%? of the cooling flow thru secret hose somehow helps distribute flow around oil cooler?

    Removing secret hose piping behind engine makes access to FPR easier

    LR had to redesign rad and fuel cooler flow when EGR cooler was fitted to meet EU3 standards I guess?

    So all this seems to be more relative as to the radiator that we put in. It seems like the coolant is going to flow around the oil cooler regardless.
    If we have early type radiator then we use hose and flow around the back of the engine to the radiator.
    If we use late model radiator block oil cooler.
    Someone has changed my radiator at some stage to a late model.
    I will leave my oil cooler blocked now.

    I too puzzled over the design for many hours trying to improve it.

    Just to confirm, on EU2 models, the oil cooler blanking can be installed with no adverse effects.

    By design the only improvement that can be done is possibly contact time of coolant to oil cooler surface time.

    Hence this design... further I now installed an elbow onto the cooler to force cool water from the pump through the cooler. Fins on the outside has also been added.

    This is basically a pipe containing hot engine oil and thin pipes inside with coolant flowing through it. I wasn't happy with the original design where water could choose the path straight to the block instead of forcing it through the cooler first.

    Material choice is the other improvement over stock.

    Post 30 is nothing but a description of how i connected the secret hose without drill my radiator...
    (With new head)
    The steel pipe was still in place, just disconnected

    And easy changed back if i choose to.
    Your also forgetting I used to have it blanked (old head)
