    CDL For Manual DII

Hey guys new to the forum and will hopefully be buying a Manual D2 in the near future.

I have read and seen plenty of info regarding the CDL kits but all of them seem to be directed to the auto trannys. Is there any difference with the manuals. I think they use the same transfercase but not sure.

I am currently looking at a 2002 model and understand the 2002 models are missing the actual CDL mechanism. If anyone has a link to a kit for manual 2002 models that would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Pretty sure they are the same. The best one IMO is from a bloke in the UK on the D2boys site who goes by the name "50". It's a sealed unit resisting water inflow to the cab whereas the Ashcroft and others are open arrangements. I have a "50's" in mine. Top quality at a good price.

If you're retrofitting from d1 then auto and manual are different. I think where the shifter mounts on the transmission. The d2 ones should be common and are cable actuated, not attached to the transmission.

Ensure the vehicle has the CDL internals. Somewhere on the forum are the applicable vehicle date ranges.

If you do have the internals for the cdl another thing to look at is the mounting bracket for the cable link. On the system installed on mine the mounting bracket covers the transmission sump bolt. Not an issue with an auto . So if this is the one you go for be sure to get a section "notched" out so that this bolt can be accessed without having to remove the bracket when chaging the trans oil.

Hey guys thanks for replying. The 2002 models from my understanding do not have the CDL Internals that is why I was considering a Transfercase swap. I can get a transfercase from a D2 with CDL Internals but the car is auto. Would the D2s have the same transfercase for each transmission?

    Thanks

    Thumbs up

    Kouf

Triumph Rover Spares - The World's Largest Land Rover Dismantler = TRS

worth giving TRS a call in adelaide = large wreckers of LR's

I bought the D2 lever/cables/sticker etc from them a few years ago
prices are dropping slowly as demand drops and worth a call - especially if you need the CDL internals as well -Phil is the man to talk to I recall

you can feel if the CDL internals are there by reaching up and finding the 10mm flat sided actuating bolt ..there are photo's somewhere on this site - search ?

The following site has instructions fro D1 lever to D2 manual www.discovery2.co.uk / Disco 1 CDL into a Disco 2

    cheers

    They should be identical.

Thankyou for that Info. I have not purchased the car yet and was trying to figure out costs before i made my final decision. I have no problem with getting under the car and manually engaging and disengaging the lock. After reading a few other threads I am almost 100% sure the 2002 model doesn't have the mechanism so I will give the rover wreckers a call and see what they recommend.
    Thanks Everyone.
