Thread: Coolant leak spray pattern forensics on V8 D2

Have red coolant stains and drips on the front axle and traced the source to somewhere around power steering pump and hoses (LHS). All I can see is a spray pattern I have photographed here. Radiator looks fine, can't see leaks from water pump or surrounds. Is it spray from external leak from head gasket ?
At idle I see no leak.
If it is head gasket, would some stop-leak or similar additive be worth a try?
Actual coolant loss is minimal. I only top up ~200 mls every week or two.

I also go the water pump, a slow leak at the bearing weep hole, recently had the same thing. Coolant only slowly dropping from tank over time.
If it is the water pump and you do replace it also check your viscous coupling for wear. Both mine and a customers recently needed replacement also after we replaced the water pump. In our cases we believe the crook viscous fan ( Looseness caused undue load on the water pump bearing to cause them to fail)
