D2 dual battery in original position

    Hi all,
So I recently bought a fridge for the car, and logically thought "I should get a dual battery system" straight after. Being my impulsive self, I saw the dual tray that goes into standard position (Carl's design) and bought one.

Now I just read something in another thread and realised my current battery is 110ah/1000cca. By changing to dual optima this will be identical amp hours.

Can someone explain to me the benefits of swapping out?
The best thing I can think of is keeping auxiliary battery on separate circuit to avoid cranking battery discharge, however that means I only get half the amp hours.

Help me make this logical, being that tray is $180, batteries $260 x 2, charger $110 + cabling!

If you buy a Traxide dual battery controller, the batteries disconnect at 12 volts so you get about 1.5 worth of battery time.

I agree about the worth of replacing the original starting battery with 2 Optimas, although 2 Optimas would probably charge quicker.

I have bought an ARB battery tray and have a blue top Optima 780CCA there rewired to be the starting battery , and a 130AH AGM in the original spot as the house battery.

I am nervous about 12 volt cutoff so I have an ABR Sidewinder controller that cuts off at 12.4 volts so I have about 150AH available or to be realistic about 100AH down to a realistic non flat level. I also have the sidewinder monitor.

My setup has been fitted about 18 months now and a trip around Australia with no problems and rarely under about 11.8 volts.
    Regards Philip A

I can never get my head round it but Tim at Traxide can explain it. Total numbers are no where it's all at
