Hi, have a 99 V8 that has been diagnosed with slipped linners.
Is it possible to rebuild these engines at home or do i need a new engine

You can rebuild at home as long as you contract out the tech bits like putting in top hat liners.

But the costs do build up so maybe if you can find a good second hand engine that may be more cost effective.

Actual assembly is a piece of ****. Just the liners and any other machining needs professional gear. Once done (with hatted liners) it's a keeper so if your in long term it's worth doing, and if not in a hurry, chase some 4.6 bits.

Give Ken "Outback 1 " or Eric "Bundelane" a Pm they often wreck D2s, they may have a good used engine for sale, gets you back on the road sooner and for less expense.
To rebuild an there are lots of other components to replace for a rebuild, cams, followers, rings, bearings etc to be done properly they all add to the cost of the project.
