    Ok.. where'd it go...

Have poked around in there with a hook but it isn't within reach of the opening...
ANy ideas? or should I just duct tape one of my earth magnets to the car, the other to the flap, and be satisfied lol

You can reach it from underneath - I had the same problem. I fitted a piece of tubing over the retracting latch, and split the tubing at the end 4 ways and stuck the tabs thus created down with silicon to create a sleeve to hold everything in place.

    thank you
It's always a bit dicey (would get stuck just inside the lip and I'd use a fingernail to pop it back out again ) but I'd have taken it more seriously if I'd known it could disappear entirely!

see what bit you need http://www.allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=820914&SPRACHE=EN , at it's price maybe you better buy one than start "digging" after it

EDIT... re-reading this thread i realised that my intervention might be useless as i didnt see the pic first time on my telephone , sorry

Thats ok, your picture was very h elpful. Last time I had to order the little rubber thingo, thats how I asked for it from my fav ebay seller ('hey, do you have one of those little rubber v shape thingoes that hold the fuel flap shut?' lol, now there are names.. and a clear diagram. Thank you

Not looking forward to trying to put that lot together when I can't even see it.. I wonder if it is still in there or if the entire assembly has come apart and the pin dropped out entirely

Lucy, was yours on a D2? I've laid down under the car and stuck my arm up as far as I can get it and I can't feel a thing

When you press your button in the car to release the fuel filler cover, that metal bit retracts in temporarily and is then supposed to protrude back out. But in my case, it disappeared entirely (It used to get stuck a little but I could always see it and free it, this time.. disappearing act)

You can definitely reach up in there.
When I pulled my rear trim out, I could reach out through the rear vent and you could see my hand from outside the car
