So a quick update. This morning I ran the fuel prime cycle before I started the car and no problems. I'm starting to think it is a fuel starvation issue....
Could fuel be draining back to tank if there is no visible fuel leak around the car?

FPR? I'm a bit green when it comes to acronyms.
you can do some simple and cheap things to rule out possible issue, just realised that as your's is facelift it might have a non return valve too in the rear inner connection of the filter head, check out if it has or not cos i saw cases when it missd on facelifts too, it's enough to watch to the rear inner connection cos it must be a bit thicker than the others, so:
-replace air bleed valve which is compulsory and the non return valve(VUB503950) if there is one
-if you still have to purge the system to start on first turn after that take a long nose locking pliers, and gently clamp the rubber pipe which comes back to the FPR(use two pieces of rubber between the jaws to protect the pipe) and leave it so over night .... if it will start hard again in the morning this way and with the new valves IMO you need to replace the injector seals/washers

Just an update...
I cleaned out the red plug and it seems to have worked. Seems very strange as leaving the fuel prime cycle also seemed to have helped.
Anyway, I cleaned the red plug and the ECU, left it over night and it started first time this morning.
I'll try it again as I don't quite believe it!
I am amazed my Land Rover specialist here in Burwood, Melbourne, would not know about this issue but prefer to charge me a fortune to replace parts that didn't help.....
An update of an update.
Cleaning the red ECU plug seemed to work sporadically but the issue was still there. I have now changed over the Air bleed valve but have not replaced the non-return valve (which the car does have).
I have noticed that when I turn the ignition to ON, I can here the fuel pump start up and it sounds like it is cavitating (sloshing around fuel and air) for a brief second before just the hum of the pump can be heard,
To me this sounds like that the fuel is draining back to tank and the fuel system is taking some time to prime. I'll replace the non-return valve to see if that helps.
Could the pump be leaking internally? The reason I ask is that the pump and fuel pump relay were changed about 2 weeks before these problems started to happen.
It does sound like you're losing fuel from the engine.
There was a recall on chaffed fuel lines near the fuel tank and if the new fuel pump has allowed the lines to chaff again. Also, the push in fittings on the pump (x4), perhaps one of those has come adrift or has been damaged and has a leak. No wet areas on the tank? I have had a fuel tank leak, but not actually drop fuel onto the ground.
Likewise just check the washers in the fuel filter aren't allowing air to be sucked back in - it makes these noises for a while after replacing the fuel filter when there is air in the system.

I spoke to "those" LR specialists again and suggested they have a look at it as I thought it could be related to the fuel pump being replaced. I was asked to fill the tank right up and see if the problem still occurs.
Supposedly, if it does occur again, he wants to pull all the injectors and lines out and replace all the seals. If it doesn't occur he will take a look for me.

Anyway, I have noticed that if I turn the car to "on" but don't start, I can hear the fuel pump cavitating. If I wait for that sound to go away (~10 secs) the car starts fine.
I'm sure it's an air leak, a really annoying air leak.
Anyone got any info on checking all the lines around the pump?
Do I have to pull up the carpet?
