Thread: Drivers Door Wont Open

I have a 2000 Land Rover Discovery 2.
The drivers door could not be opened from the outside.
After a web search I assumed the Lock Actuator needed to be replaced.
I purchased a new Genuine Land Rover Actuator.
I removed the door lining, window frame and window and replaced the actuator.
I tested the Actuator (open door, close door, lock, unlock).
It worked perfectly for the first few times.
Then the door would no longer open from inside or outside.
The locks (normal and super) sound as though they are operating but I could not open the door.
The key does not open the door, neither does the dashboard switch.
I disconnected the electrical connections to the Actuator and separately applied +/- 12 volts to the two motors.
Both motors appear to work. They make a solid clunking sound as they operate and the sill button moves up and down.
But the door will not open.
What can I do next?
I can't remove or replace the actuator because I can't open the door.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, when I got my D2 a bit over a year ago I had problems with the front passenger door not wanting to open from the outside.

I managed to fix it by uncliping the actuator rod from the lock mechanism (the rod with number 2 next to it in the attached grab from the manual). the actuator rod was threaded on the end and it screwed into a plastic insert. I screwed the insert a little and after a couple of goes to figure out which way to turn it, all was good again. Re-clip actuator rod and the door handle has worked ever since.

My obvious thought or fear was that the thread in the plastic part had been stripped as it cant really undo itself when it is clipped in place but it hasn't stopped working yet.

To check if this is a problem for you I think you could have a look at which way the actuator rod is moving when the door handle is operated, then see if the lock opens when you give it a little bit of extra encouragement with some pliers on the actuator rod. Hope that makes sense, it was a year or so ago.
