I didn't want to be redoing the job again as planned to keep the D2 for a while so did work above a normal recon.
hear is the bit that hurts.
Reco auto $3400 (this was a recon unit and not a rebuild of my old auto)
Heavy duty drive plate $180
Ashcroft Torque Converter (upgrade) $470
New cooler hoses $246
Aux Auto cooler installed $450 (additional cooler in front of radiator)
Labour about $1,100 as they did additional work not relating to gear box
So a straight recon unit without extra about $4,500. What I have read this seems around average. The benefit is that it was planned and not a result of a breakdown. I could of got a 2nd had recon off a D2 that had done 150k for around $3k installed but I didn't want to risk it not knowing the history.
Extra work done while in the shop:
replaced 2 door locks assembly's
Poly air bags fitted to rear
ECU Flash Tune
New MAF
Work done by Les Richmond Automotive in Melbourne.
I hope this helps

Looking at these prices I think they are reasonable.
As for Les Richmond. I have met the odd person who has not had a good experience there, but that can happen anywhere.
Me personally and I am a retired spanner, have had a bit to do with them and I would not hesitate to recommend them.
This is my own personal opinion but when it comes to Landies Andrew does know his stuff.

I agree Andrew does know his stuff. They provided good advice and clearly outlined the various options and pricing to upgrade the auto. So from my experience I would recomend them. Will see how the auto going in 6 - 12 months. They offer 12 months on parts and Labour.
The other reason I went with les richmond auto is the previous owner spent $$ on upgrading the runnig gear (lift kit, air lockers, axles etc) so they new the vehicle. Dont really know if that counts for much.
He is a pic of the old girl

Wow, mate!
Short term pain for long term peace of mind.
Those prices are reasonable for the quality of work.
Most report that what you have done will make a great difference to the longevity of the Disco

Thats the plan!! Only problem it took me years to work it out compared to when i was a young fella patching up the landy for short term gain but with long term pain
