revs
Good evening everyone.
I was wondering if any of you could help me with an oddity happening with my TD5 auto disco.
I have noticed that my thermostat opens at about four kilometers from cold in the mornings. However I have recently noticed that the engine is revving at about four hundred revs too high.
At about the same time as the thermostat opens the revs drop down to the usual 2,200 rpm that I normally expect at 100 kmph.
Is it the thermostat or the thermo fan or somthing else?
Any ideas?
Regards Nick.

It could be a cooling problem where the ECU is getting a signal that the TEMP is too high and it is making the engine rev more in the hope it will draw more air in through radiator via the viscous fan

It doesn't lock the torque converter until the ATF comes up to temp.

I can answer this one. Yes it is normal, mine will not engage lock up until temps are up usually at about 4.5 k's but less in warmer weather and more in colder.

As has been said this is normal.
In the RAVE manual it lists the way it works.
I think on start up if the coolant temperature is low it's around 7mins before lockup will occur.

Yes the time you notice it most is if you are staying on a Highway and want to get up to 80-100KMh straight away from cold in the morning.
