D2 auto trans (are petrol & diesel the same unit?)

    Gday everyone.
Having recently purchased a 4.0 D2 for wrecking I'd like to know if the trans out of the 2000 V8 petrol is of any use to me keeping as a back up for my D2a TD5?
I know that the bell housing and torque converter are different but just wondered if the actual trans itself is interchangeable between the 2?
Possibly different internal ratios between the 2?

    Thanks in advance. Nigel

There are other differences, rear housing length being the main one, v8 is 60mm shorter
