Td5 autos do tend to hit a bit of a wall at 80 km/h in standard trim, but if yours has gotten worse than usual, my first guess would be to unplug the MAF and see what happens.
Also, if yours is an EU3 motor, and has a few Kms on it, the cat may be blocked up - if that's the case, removal will greatly improve pulling power over 80km/h, as well as speed up turbo response.
Boost leaks or collapsed turbo hoses is another possibility, probably less likely from your description. Oil in the injector loom/at ecu also a possibility...
Finding someone nearby with a Nanocom could be helpful, may give you some information to go straight to the fault...

Is the torque converter locking up?
They seem to get a second wind once the TC locks up, which happens at 80km/h. If they don't its all hard work until it does. If the ATF level is low you will lose the TC lock up.

Try cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor. Same thing use to happen to me. I just had auto recon and ECU upgrade and they replaced the MAF. Told mechanic about problem and said it more likely to be the MAF then auto.

Mine has had a boost limiting issue. which seems to limit boost to 5.8psi. Once car is turned off and turned on again it returns to normal.
It has appeared to have fixed itself though. I have cleaned the MAF to fix another issue. Not sure if that was part of my problem.

Had EXACTLY this problem almost 2 years ago. Replaced the MAF and the problem was gone.

MAF, APT or sticking waste gate can all produce over lost readings resulting in power cut

Mine does something similar. It can pause at 80 ish at 3000rm all go and no acceleration, no lock up. suddenly decides to lock up then takes off with no shortage of go. So I need to check the MAF and auto levels. anything else?

I just had Ecu remapped and new MAF and it drives beautifully now but I also had the auto recon and TC upgraded. It has completely changed the performance. Doesn't rev over 3000 and power straight away when hit the pedal. This is the very very expensive fix. As listed in this thread start with MAF and waste gate thingy first

Hi DiscoLuke, I just wanted to ask if you ever found the cause of the problem you described. It appears quite a few of the experts on the forum were pointing to the MAF sensor as a good starting point.
I have exactly the same issue you describe with my 2004 TD5 auto. Unfortunately I don't have access to Nanocom at this point.
So I'll run through some of the checks on this post, but was interested to see if you solved the issue.
