Front bearing in TC or diff...

If you ran a long time stock (and below) your vehicle will have bedded in around those angles...

You've now changed the game It may need time or new bearings

    Thanks gents,

Tombie - mate the output housing bearing has only about 1mm of play and has only done 50,000 k - I had the transfer case re-conditioned. The Diff is original.

PhillipA - mate there are many people that have not felt the need for castor correction after only a 40mm lift...I found she tracked every undulation on the highway and was very tiring to drive...I put a fair few k's on the clock after the lift without castor correction but in the end I had to get it done and having had it done, she is a lovely drive on the highway again.

I have re-thought this one. I think if it was diff there would be noise...there isnt at all. I think perhaps the shaft has some metal fatigue etc or some small spline wear etc that just means its knackered. I am going to throw in a stock GKN shaft but with larger greasable unis versus stock and see what happens. If that cures it it will be an odd trip in for the third time to see Hardy Spicer...

    Will let you know.

    Cheers

Have you had a front alignment check done to confirm your current caster? Just wondering if you have over-corrected it.

I havent mate, but the factory would have had a range of castors that would be considered factory standard, so its more a seat of pants thing. I have had the vehicle since new and noticed on lifting an immediate steering issue that was not helped by an alignment and even new tyres afterwards...vague, wandering steering that would not return to centre and a slight vibration...the castor correction bushes are set to the standard 3 degrees for a lift up to 2 inch. The steering now feels like it did before the lift...so while castor may be a degree or so over at the most, it should not be such a great angle that would cause a double cardan shaft to have problems - especially a reconditioned one. I can understand the old one having problems.

    Cheers
