    UHF INSTALL

I am planning on firing it above the mirror. Question

Is there enough power to link in with the interior light. It's LED.

I can't see why you could not use the power to the interior light.
If it's an LED I'd suggest it is a globe replacement unit.
Remember this will be a live feed so you will need to turn the UHF off after each trip.
On a recent thread there was a mention of finding the power wires to the sunroof and using the accessory feed for the UHF.
This would allow the UHF to turn on and off with the key.
    Cheers, Kyle

I mounted mine in the Map pocket just to the left of the Mirror.

I have the second battery in the RH Rear corner in the engine bay.

The ICOM instructions say go straight to the battery. I found the original wires long enough to go to the second battery.

I figure there is no chance of voltage drop straight to the battery.

I also found on a trip to Birdsville that the Prado had the UHF fitted by the shop on the key power so every time we stopped he was off the radio. This almost caused a head on at Little Red because he wasn't listening when I asked where they were and I was coming back up.

For the issue of leaving it on. I have done this many times when I forgot to turn it off with no problems at all even all night.

I installed a GME TX3345 remote handset unit,
Mounted the unit to the drop down drivers panel and the handset to a spare Cou tray I picked up.
Volume on the compact units is a bit low, so also purchased a remote speaker that I squeezed into the map pocket above the drivers sun visor.
Neat as install, simply tapped off the back of the Cig socket.

Map pocket above drivers head if small enough unit.
    I wish I'd done this.
Power from interior light, cut live feed and branch off.
Mine is next to interior lamp but looks ugly.

Where would the best spot to run the antenna cable through the firewall be?

Pull new cable and run it up there... The internal wiring can induce all sorts of noise at times into the radio.

Professional Radio installs always go to the power source... (Batteries act as a noise filter)

High up on the bulkhead near the brake booster (look to the right of it) there is an unused rubber grommet. It's hidden under the sound insulation - lift it up to locate it.

There is another grommet on the passenger side of the firewall that I used.
