My mate accidentally bought a D2 a few weeks back. He was at the auctions helping a friend to buy a car. This nice dark green D2 rolled out and he stuck his hand up. No one else bid. An as traded vehicle with no reserve. With buyers premium and a tank full of fuel on the way home ($150) it now owes him $800. It's got 3 months rego too.

With 300,000KM on the clock, and a few issues, I think it was a bargain. Goes quite well, but needs some work. Interior is rough and well used by a large family, but the exterior is sweet.

I don't want to say what I traded ours in for, needless to say the gearbox replaced early in the year was worth more.

I was talking to a bloke last night who just bought a D2 TD5 manual with 280,000km for $3,500.

Annoyingly, I knew the bloke who was selling it but didn't know he owned a D2 - let alone it was for sale. He'd been offered $2,000 trade-in for it on a new Ford Ranger. Had I known, I'd have been sorely tempted.

Look there are plenty of cheap sales, but they are typically 'cheap' cars. There will always be a good market for the discerning purchaser who wants (and will pay good money) for a D2 in excellent condition, nothing spared on upkeep and improvement etc etc. These are the D2's which will keep selling above $10k comfortably, V8 and TD5. There are many people who will pay over $10k for excellent interior, such as seats with no visible wear, headlining replaced with professional finish, excellent service history etc, nice upgraded suspension that isnt silly, because in the end these are the trucks that will cost the least to run, and will put the biggest smile on the dial to get in and drive.

    Cheers

My eldest son stole/gave me a small deposit,on my D2a a few years ago.

He sold it six months ago for almost $16k.
A good D2a will still go for good $

I should never have moved it on,it was a fantastic vehicle.

The longer we keep our D2a td5 the harder it is to justify spending big money replacing it. Picking up a new starter tomorrow at $400+ but if it lasts as long as this one did (232,000km) that's just fine.
