    Convert from coils to SLS

    Hey guys,

So I've been considering the idea of going back to SLS. I purchased my D2 with converted coils, however I still have the SLS off road switch and what appears to be all wiring harnesses and cradle on left chassis rail. Haven't checked for air lines yet, but there is no compressor.

I have a Nanocom to reprogram, but will I face any other issues if I find a compressor with box, air lines and I'll purchase new bags I think.

The main reason for the change is due to towing a 21ft boat on occasion and the current Springs being extremely soft. Understand I could get heavier Springs but the towing is time to time, and I don't want to sacrifice ride quality.

    Thoughts? Anyone converted BACK?

So have been doing plenty more research and looking at my vehicle and rave.

Turns out the person who remove the air bags opted to hack the lines off!

Trying to work out if I should get a set of second hand lines from a wrecker or just build new ones from 4mm stuff from pirtek. The only thing I'm unclear of, is occasionally people are talking of a "Junction box". Is this along the rear axle somewhere?

There is a really good thread on here by Joel0407 about converting back to SLS from coils.

    Wealth of information.

Can I also say, SLS for the win!

Hi, it's not a "junction box" actually it's a silencer, it's mentioned in RAVE too

The air intake/exhaust silencer is located on the outside of the left hand chassis longitudinal, behind the air supply
unit. The silencer is an integral part of the SLS air harness and cannot be serviced individually.
The intake and exhaust air to and from the compressor passes through the silencer. The plastic moulded silencer has
two chambers. One chamber reduces system exhaust noise and the other dampens intake air pulses produced by
    the compressor.
you can see it in the pic here RQM100012 | AIR SUSPENSION PIPE HARNESS DISCO11 | Land Rover | Discovery 2 - 1999 to 2004 | Britcar (UK) Ltd , you'll also need the bits from the right side of the page(except the viscous fan ) filter RQB000540 , and 3 x connectors ANR6460
there were guys who "manufactured" the harness from pneumatic pipes but they said it's a bit noisy without that damper so IMO better find a good looking second hand harness and don't torment yoyurself by building it

if it was previously on air you might still have the filter behind the rear left tail lamp though, it just needs to be cleaned

    Thanks for the comprehensive reply!

I definitely have the silencer on the chassis rail still. Didn't realise that's what people mean by the junction! I imagine I'd have the filter in that case but will investigate.

Might just need to find a wreck with all associated lines to and from the silencer then.

if you find a complete harness the silencer will be on it cos if you still have it on the car it means the pipes were cut cos it's not removable otherwise

Have you investigated the idea of helper airbags inside the rear coil springs?
This would have the effect of still providing the softer ride when unloaded but having the vehicle sit level when towing a van, boat etc.
The only drawback I can see is that you need to manually pump up the airbags.

I have looked at the option, from what I can tell it will cost a similar amount. I've heard the ride is great with SLS and most people shun it because they expect the bags which are up to 15yrs old now to be invincible!

I've decided that SLS is my preferred option.

Now to fix up the previous owner's butchery with lines!

You're 100% right! I had a look, chop chop chop! all around the silencer.

    Sad times!
