here is the improvisation for extreme crisis(brought me home from the woods few years ago, fortunately i had a small ax in the boot and "fabricated" a kind of block), works for D2 as well: woodrepair

There is no way I would drive any considerable distance with a deflated airbag. The shock loading will break something, possibly the chassis.

Can you fill the failed airbag with tennis balls or similar (I am quite serious).

I was going to suggest the same, but its a bit out there. I recall reading it on the forum but it was for a failed coil? Lots of tennis balls.

How bad is the hole in the bag?

I've often thought of using that tyre goo u put in push bikes for cat-head punctures.

Hi all quick updates, sorry for the delayed response (in and out of mobile reception).. Made it all the way to Triumpspares in Adelaide. Phil kindly offered to help at short notice. To get me here, i put a stack, around 10cm high initially, of car rubber matts (cut in 8cmx15cm rectangles) tied with steel cable ties. Also deflated rear tyres so that i would get some sort of even level and clearance, drove no faster than 80/85kph. I will keep you posted when the car has been fixed and whether or not any damage that i could not assess occurred. Thank you all for the very helpful suggestions at such short notice, very much another good reason to be part of this forum for such a long time.

Latest updates, King springs and helper polyair bags fitted, happy with the result at this stage, i suppose time will tell. As an aside, travelled about 70 kms of the French Line and another 400kms on the K1 line/Birdsville track back to Birdsville on the bump stop. Attempted to get a more permanent fix at the Birdsville auto shop but to no avail due to severe time constraints. Improvised the car carpet patch mentioned in my previous post which enabled us to travel from Birdsville to Adelaide approx 1200kms. Once again thanks for the invaluable assistance.
