    TD5 EGR removal

    Evening all!

I'm sure there's a thread or two on this subject, but just wondering how many D2 owners have removed the EGR valve on their vehicle, and what any benefits noticed are? I've just finished (before it got dark! ) doing this and have noticed a definite improvement in acceleration, from around 50-60km/h onwards.

One thing I've also noticed though, is that the solenoid (after removing the blue hose and blanking it off) now 'buzzes'...
    Anyone else noticed that?

    Cheers!

I've removed EGR on mine, I don't think I noticed anything particularly to do with performance. I just did it to ensure it didn't get stuck!

Yes, I have noticed it buzzes, only on hotter days for me (25c+ as estimate). Need to work out how to make it stop!

I also got buzzles. Mine buzzed so hard you could feel it in your feet throughout the car, felt like the car was going to fall apart. I recently removed it all to get rid of it. I hardly drove mine before removing the egr so I can't comment of performance.

Reading another recent AULRO (May) thread on this, the concensus seems to be that removing the second pipe (yellow) from the solenoid and blanking it off where it meets the plastic T junction, will stop the buzz. It's important to cap the T off, as this will affect brake vacuum if you don't. This makes sense, as the company that mailed me the blanking kit sent two blanking plugs. I guess they anticipate the buzzing!

Yep that's exactly what I did. Except I went one step further and removed the whole solenoid assembly. Most people seem to use those caps on the output of each solenoid. (Some cars have two some have one)

The EGR modulator must be unplugged if the valve/valves are bypassed cos the ECU will keep it under power all the time and it puts unnecessary load on the circuit which is shared with the MAF and the wastegate modulator, or it can fail in time and blow fuse F2 which will let the MAF and wastegate modulator without feed... so even if you dont remove the modulator at least unplug it and protect the plug from short circuit

    Be interesting

I'm going to get an IRB developments kit if ever they answer my emails, after seeing the junk it leaves in the manifold I reckon it would be a good move.
Their kits comprehensive and covers all necessary bits and pieces so worth the hassle of trying to track one down.

    I'm considering something like this.

NEW Defender TD5 Full Alloy EGR Removal KIT Promo Price MAX MPG BHP Gain | eBay

I wanted to install something effective that looked like it was still there but block it off and have a re-tune to turn it off. But this kit doesn't look standard, it would be helpful to know if it would be more effective than other ways of turning it off.

I purchased and installed one of these Jazzman.
All very simple, they even provided the plugs for the solenoid. I think I needed one more plug then provided (as mine started buzzing) but just used an end piece off a plastic coated wire coat hanger and it did the same job as the plugs provided.

Somewhere on here a discussion was had on what needs to be disconnected and capped etc at the solenoid.

Thanks. I read some of the threads relating to this. I'm still not sure if removing the EGR makes the car unroadworthy though.
