IMO you misssed something there cos it's deffinitely a BCU setting issue, what tool did you use and describe exactly what you did... if it's nanocom you must set it in INSTRUMENT PACK menu, try again and insist ...if no joy then it might be some problem with the instrument pack internal circuit... to check that see RAVE - Electrical library - Connector views to identify the pin disposals of the connector at the top right side of the instrument pack(C0230), get some single core thin wire and make a bridge in the plug between pins 20-4-5 or at autobox ECU plug C0193 between pins 25-26-51 where ever it's easyer for you...if this way the M + S lights will not go off there's a problem within the instrument pack
