Thread: Diff Lock, once and for all!

    Reading through this, to sumamrise :

    Unless i will be spending time really hitting it hard through soft sand then my TC will suffice on fairly easy bush tracks?

    I dont intend on tearing up sand dunes or driving the car very hard up difficult tracks, my motor is maily for touring and the odd forrest track with a tricky section to take slow here and there....

    If TC will suffice then I wont bother with CDL... thoughts?

    I would have thought that the opposite approach would be better. That is use the CDL so that the TC only comes into play as a last resort.

    Read this thread and see if you still think your suggestion is the way to go.

    Traction control in the D2a was "dumbed down" due to the centre diff lock being reinstated. It's still there, but not as aggressive and the pre facelift models. Pre facelift models that have had the centre diff lock reinstated run a higher risk of snapping axles due to the overly aggressive nature of the traction control meant of "unlocked" vehicles.

    That said, a centre diff lock and traction control are a very versatile combination. Forcing some wheel spin using the loud pedal to purposely engage the traction control can make the vehicle progress farther than it otherwise would.

    I find the TC to not be any problem in sand ... But I drive an auto, so avoiding wheel spin is far easier as the torque converter helps greatly in maintains good wheel rotation .... When I do go grossly overboard with the loud pedal in soft sand, the TC kicks in and then my progress diminishes greatly .... A gentle right foot seems to get me further in sand .... But the torque converter is working much much harder than on hard stand tracks.
