    TD5 Tuning Options

    Hi Team,
I'm a bit of a newbie to AULRO and I’d like to thank all the aulro posters for their valuable contributions on the site. I’ve spent hours researching and what a fantastic resource this is.
I hope you can help me out.
I've got a 2003 D2 TD5 that’s now done 115,000 ks and I plan to keep it for some time.
I've bought, and I’m in the process of fitting, the following items:
    • an upgraded intercooler (Serk),
    • an EGR delete kit (Doh! just realised I could have ordered one from Tombie – my bad),
    • a Mann & Hummel oil separator,
    • an egt monitor.

I plan to 'relocate' the catalytic converter.
These items I consider to be all the ‘passive’ basics that need to be sorted before upgrading anything really serious.
I do not intend to change the standard Turbo, although I would like to confirm that the blow-off kicks in at the highest possible point before ecu turns down the fuel.
The car has slightly larger than standard tyres (Pirelli Scorpion MTRs in 245-70-R16 [29.6x 9.7 x 16]), apart from that, it’s a standard 5-seater, with no ACE or SLS.
I've changed all the fluids and I'm in the process of replacing a few oil seals, gaskets and bearings.
    • I want the car to pull harder, go faster, be smoother, use not-much-more-fuel and remain reliable.

    Here are the questions:
    1. If want to have the ecu remapped, is there anyone I can genuinely rely on, in Melbourne, who can tune the car on a Dyno and get it right?
    2. If there is anyone like that, should I buy a remap from TD5 Inside and save time on the Dyno by asking my tuner to start with that?
    3. Am I completely bonkers to even consider a Dyno tune, and should I just get the remap from TD5 Alive like all their other, apparently satisfied, customers and fine-tune the car via email?

I look forward to you input.

Buy a nanocom, get an Alive or Inside tune.
Run the tune, drive around for a few weeks with the nanocom recording info.
If you'd like something changed or tweaked, tell either Gary at Alive or José at Inside and send them off the recorded logs from the nanocom and they'll be able to alter it for you based on what you want. Not sure about Alive but Inside certainly do these alterations at no extra cost

    Bump!
So, that's one vote for driving it around a bit, with the TD5 Inside map, then tweaking it via email. This option adds nearly $500 (Nanocom) to the cost of the job.
Does anyone know a tuner with TD experience and a Dyno, for a more precise option?

Actually, it adds $500 to your supply of tools, and is a $500 discount on preventative maintenance and fault code reading. Don't bother dynoing it, a nanocom will tell you everything you and the tuner will want to know, and save you $80 every time you need a fault code reset.
If I could change anything about my Land Rover expenditure thus far, the only thing I'd change would be buying a nanocom first thing.
Oh and maybe that Tigerz11 winch

The money spent on the Nanocom now will pay dividends later for fault diagnostic. The device is far more useful that to just load a tune up.

Alternatively, find someone locally with one and arrange to borrow/hire it to load your tune.

My vote is for TD5Inside. The after sale service is fantastic and the tune is continually adjusted until your happy.

There is only one programmer in Aus that has the ability to code the TD5 live on a dyno.

Based in Sydney, and doesn't usually do it unless the vehicle is proving troublesome.

Just go with Jose at TD5inside. You wont be disappointed.

I don't think I have read a bad thing about him but I've read of a heap of happy customers, me being one of them.

Jose continues to help you for long after you buy the tune. I feel I have to promote him and TD5inside because I feel guilty about things he does for me without letting me pay for it.

    Happy Days

The Nanno saved me the other day. I flattened the battery with my fridge and after a jump start my auto went into limp mode. I plugged in the Nano and without even turning off the ignition I was able to reset the fault codes and it was happy days. Without this jigger in the glovebox I would have needed a tow to a dealer and an overnight stay to wait for them to open. 300km away from home. Buy one now.
