Which Head Gasket to Order?
I have read with great interest Psimpson7's Tutorial on removing and reinstalling a head on a TD5 motor, great tutorial btw!
In that, Psimpson states that "the head gasket is a 1 hole one, but I will be putting in the thickest one I think".
I too have a one hole gasket or 1.27mm and am about to replace my head.
A mechanic yesterday said that he would be putting a 3 hole or 1.35mm back in, rather than going with the existing size as recommended on here by some and also in the RAVE.
Why would you do that? Just wondering which one to order from Turner's.

In the end I fitted the same thickness one I took out in my 90.
Since then when I have done td5 rebuilds I have measured the piston protrusion and selected the correct one as per the LR docs.

I want to pre-order so don't have that luxury as I am supplying the parts. You aren't the only one to think this way, is there a benefit for going bigger/higher? My mechanic said the same thing as you. Just want to get this right.

Personally I cant see any issue with swapping from the 1.27 to the 1.35mm gasket, especially assuming you will be having the head skimmed slightly?

Psimpson,
My head has a crack/is porous and is leaking fuel into the oil. I am having to replace the head with a new one. Some mechanics have suggested a replacement LR head and some an AMC Head. I'm going with AMC (I think)as I can buy it for $2035 in Australia.
regards
David

In which case if it was me, I would refit the same thickness gasket.
