Thread: Rear 12v turns on washer pump?!

I would start with the battery pack,check if it has voltage at the cig plug,this would mean that it can back feed into the landrover electrics.If not there may be a short in the plug,try unconnecting from the battery pack and then plug in the cig socket does the washer motor still run,
Clean all the earth points in the landrover,this is usually the starting point of any electrical problems.

Hi Lewy, it does have voltage (I just want to charge it when the car is running) should I put a diode inline then?

Just trying to establish if it is the battery pack feeding the washer.
try cleaning the earths first

Make sure you are getting voltage from the socket before getting too involved. If plugging the battery in the output is making the washer run then i'd also expect the washer pump to go all the time.

My first guess, you be you either have a blown fuse to the rear socket or it has been disconnected due to this fault being around a while. Have you tried plugging this battery into the front socket?

I have seen a battery pack pluged into the rear outlet that stopped the engine from stopping when the key was switched off. Engine would stay running until the plug was pulled

It will be a back feed. Pretty sure the rear cargo socket is ignition switched, so with the ignition on there should be no problem, but turn the ignition off and the battery pack will back feed through the cars wiring and find its way back via any available route. In your case the route is via the washer pump.

Yes, but you need to make sure you get a decent one so you don't drop the voltage when actually charging it. A solar panel one would probably be a good option.
