    td5 Fuel canister (or cooler?)

    Hi all,
Been a while since I've been on here, things have been pretty good until now (knock on wood). My issue now is a coolant leak just below the reservoir. I believe its called the fuel cooler or fuel canister? The reason I ask is that 2 years ago I had a diesel leak (at the fuel canister) they said so I had it reconditioned. Now I've got this leak (see photo) and I think it's the same thing again.

So my question is: 1) is the fuel canister the same thing as the fuel cooler
    2) what is the leaking part in the photo

    Cheers guys.

Hi, it's the fuel cooler, common issue but cheap and quite easy to fix, you need some o-rings, but i can't explain so well as here www.discovery2.co.uk - Leaking Fuel Cooler Fix

    thanks guys,
i thought it was the fuel cooler. So what is the fuel canister? or has the mechanic just called it the fuel canister instead of the fuel cooler?

I had it reconditioned 2 years ago so if possible I will get the mechanic to fix it as the car's only done probably 25k.

The cooler looks quite new so im thinking that they've just called it by a different name?

Bought the kit from roverlord and will hopefully get some time before exams to get this done. otherwise I'll be driving a commodore just to be safe, will be done in a month tops. But might be able to find time this coming weekend. Anyone have any ideas how long it should take? I've done a fair bit on this D2 myself so I know the hassles that inevitably come up - what should I be looking out for this time? Also, when I remove the hose is coolant going to come gushing out or is there some kind of system that restricts the flow?

Super easy fix. Just smack off the original clamps. Pull the ends out. Replace the orings. Put it back together and fit the clamps again. I fitted worm drive hose clamps as a replacement to the standard the as I found the originals too hard to get back on.

The actual fix can be done easy - a morning (and I'm a true novice). I removed the cooler as I felt that made it easier for me to remove the clamp and front of the cooler, but there is a hose clamp through which one of the bottom bolts need to be threaded when putting back together. It took me about 4 hours trying to get the front bolt (where it came from) through the clamp, eventually found it a whole lot easier to slide the clamp to the back bolt. Took about 10 minutes then. No dramas or leaks since. If your competent = 1 hour. If you're me = 3 hrs. Have fun.
