Suspension Setups
Hi guys,
I have a 2002 disco 2 with a 2" suspension lift and 33s,
When the car is loaded up and I hit a bump to hard the
back drops an the guards scrape on the tire, so I thought
I'd get a 2" body lift because I don't want to go to smaller
tires, but I've been told by some people that if I fit my 2"
body lift I will have to extended brake lines ect. But some
people have told me that if I fit it, I don't have to extend
anything so I'm a bit confused! Can somebody tell me if I
can fit it without extending things? Because it seems like an
expensive process and I would like to skip it if I could
Thanks
Jayden

Cut your guards or extend your bump stops and get stiffer springs. If you change the springs though you'll get a crap ride un laden. Or you could buy a D2 with SLS and the back automatically levels
Mine does and it's wicked.
A body lift is illegal on any SRS equipped vehicle in Australia. But I'm assuming here that you don't have your 33 inch tyres engineered either so that may not matter to you.
If you lift anything higher than 2 inches you will need to extend brake lines.

I'd suggest extending your bump stops if you are looking for a cost effective way to solve your problem. Bump stops are rubber mounts fitted to the chassis where the axle will hit at full flex. You can unbolt them and fit a spacer of some kind between the chassis and the bump stop. This way the axle will stop before the tire hits the guard.
The downside to this is you limit your wheel articulation (flex). However as you have already fitted the 33" tires you have limited the flex anyway when the tire hits the guard. So you are not loosing anymore flex then you currently have.
The other way, as already mentioned, is to cut the guards and fit flares.
An example below where you are heading if you are not careful.

Better off cutting the guards and fitting flares. Avoids the issues that you incur in further raising the height of the vehicle.
LRA sell flare kits. Also sell bump stop extension if you wish to go that way, or Flo Flex sell 1" extended urethane bump stops.
