I have been using Coopers/Fiaam air filters.

I just serviced the Disco and checked the checked the airfilter after 10,000 km. It looked ok until I compared it to a new one and it was discolored on both sides of the paper so it got changed.

I tried fitting the first one I grabbed (as I had two spares) and noticed it didn't fit very well in the air box. The rubber was a little larger than the recess it fitted into which made the sides bow in a little. I noticed there is not much lip on the side of the air box for it to sit in so grabbed the other one.

I noticed the sealing rubber was different on the two filters I had. One was smooth and soft while the other was same as the old one, a little rough and stiffer.

The stiffer one seemed to sit better in the air box so I greased the edges and fitted it.

When I bought the car I grabbed a RYCO filter and fitted it but didn't notice/remember the problem.

Anyone else noticed the bowing in sides and different rubber quality. Are other brands the same or better?

The problem with air filters is you only notice a problem if the filter is not sealing and the flow is bypassing like the one in the picture. You don't notice if the media is crap and letting through 10 or 20% more dust than the OE filter

I guess you are right, but if you are a nitpicker like me , you will look in the intake and at the MAF for dust.
I usually use Cooper and they seem fine, but I think I also have a RYCO at the moment as spares. They both look OK.

My quote button does not work at present .

Correction, they are Coopers/Fiamm and a Ryco which is obviously a buy-in as made in UK so maybe the OEM manufacturer.
