My new disco
Hey,
Well a few months back I was up in air over what my plan was with my disco , after taking it to a mechanic that I've used for sometime, I asked him to diagnose what I thought was something seriously wrong with my motor. He pulled the rocker cover off and found a worn cam lobe and replaced it with another low km second hand piece, also did the injector washers as he told me that a bad batch had come through, these were also done sometime ago.
Before he did anything I asked him to do a comp test, although I'm not quiet sure he did this before touching the motor, after doing the cam and washers he thought the comp would come up ???????
Well it didn't and he put it all back together and said the motor was knackered, although the head was good and "the injectors either work or they don't".
Ok, so that gave me a thing or two to think about.....what do I do now?'should I buy a short motor and because my head and injectors are apparently good it should be simple ?wrong!
After a while I thought I would get a second opinion and another diagnosis , a local mechanic that I used to use until I brought my disco. After taking it to him, he told me that it was definitely a head issue,as he and I could both hear it through the exhaust, no point hoping the injectors were ok, let's test them he said. So of the 5 injectors only 4 passed, and all valves were totally recessed into the head.
We then decided to pull the motor down, a broken ring on cyclinder 1,and a badly lipped bore, so I've resleeved it 50thou and rebored the rest 50thou with new piston and rings etc.
We also did the bearings and linnished the crank etc and rods.
I've now got a new donk that runs sweet as pulls like never before and will last me another 300 kms hopefully. I'm currently running it in softly and taking it easy.
My point I make is that the first mechanic I took it to is a LR specialist , and I am pretty dissapointed to have paid for previous works without fixing the problem and stopping the works until contacting me, and of course not diagnosing the problems with the motor from the start.
Sometimes it pays to get another opinion!

Hi Rangieman,
I'm not going to bag the referred business as I don't think it's right to do that as it can have a major effect , especially when they can't defend themselves.
I'm more than happy with the thorough and professional service that Chris Ireland and the guys from LPG Network Automotive in Albion st Brunswick have provided. They are well below cost of a specialist, and the mannerism professionalism and automotive know how is tops.
Cheers
Bronson
