I have these as well - I'd agree they need a firmer pedal push and seem to work better when warm yes - especially compared to our Volvo S40 with OE pads that pulls up like an F1 in comparison to the D2.

Would be keen to hear of anyone who's D2 does pull up easily and see what Pads they've used.

I was having my TD5 serviced this week and asked the Mechanic why I had a poorer brake peddle on the first push and brilliant on any second push in a row.
He could not answer other than to tell me nearly all 1999 / 2002 discos had this same problem.
He went on th say he had pulled apart both early and later boosters and they are both identical. Go figure.
Not wanting to hijack this thread but anyone here got a clue why?

It's not about where they're made but more the materials used. Some items can be made in the same factory for two different brands and the quality of the materials input can be the key difference in the quality of the item in its use.

There is nothing wrong with made in China.

But don't buy the generic cheap copy stuff as that's where the bad reputation comes from.

Normally this is a fluid problem. Have you tried completely flushing the system with new fluid and bleeding? I do not have any issues with the brakes on my 2004 D2a. However I did have the same issue you describe on my Range Rover Classic, a D1 may have a similar problem. I'd guess your mechanic is confusing the 2 discos.

I've had Bendix and RDA (not to be confused with DBA) on my BA falcon. It was terrible. To fix it i went with Territory calipers and Territory sized DBA rotors. Much improvement. Not long after i replaced the Bendix pads with factory Ford pads at an extreme cost, but the brakes were much better. All issues resolved.

From this I've decided I will probably always use the factory pads in any car. I've just purchased front rotors from Roverlord and they are great combined with Landrover pads.
