    Discovery model designations.

When I went to insure my '99 V8 D2, NRMA asked which model was it, base model or SE because there is a difference in Red Book value by $1200.
On my NSW rego papers the variant is SE7V.
    The VIN is SALLTGM33XA######
The features on the vehicle are:
    V8 Auto
    Seven seats
    ACE
    Airbag rear
Dual zone front climate control AC
6 CD stacker under drivers seat

Can I tell from the VIN or the Compliance plate whether it's an SE or not?
Should I just go by the variant on the rego papers?

I'm pretty certain all seven seaters were SE.

Apparently I have an optioned up base model.
The upspec model is an ES and has a better stereo, leather seats and fog lamps.
As per usual the RTA is wrong and have carried over the model variants from the D1.

You have an SE7. The 7 being 7 seats which all of the upspec SE's had.

I have had a couple of S models with 7 seats too over the years, the S models had cloth seats, whereas the SE's were leather amongst other things.

The Land Rover naming conventions are a bit wishy washy when compared to some other vehicle manufacturers ranges which are often very obvious in their progressions from base model to top end.

The D2's available in Australia were no badge, S, ES or SE (in order of pov to luxury).

The D2a's seemed to go no badge, S, SE, HSE - ES was dropped and HSE was added as the new top of the line model.

Then there was the last few models which had the Classic package, but this was an additional package of options, so it could be an S Classic for example. It was only available on the no badge and S models and provided them with some additional luxury extras. The SE and HSE already had all the extras that the Classic package offered in the Town variant and were viewed as being luxury vehicles not suitable for the Country package.

SE and HSE often have a badge stating such on the front fenders. S and ES badge is often found on the rear tall door. No badge models are the base model and have no badge or name designator on the vehicles.
