    Help! Big Clunk lost power

Was driving up an incline in 2nd (I think), accelerating reasonably hard and heard a bang under the car (behind or under me I think), then car seems like it dropped into 4th and of course had no power to go up hill, so I pulled over. Thought I could smell a burnt smell (maybe, but it wasn't evident for long). No warning lights came on the dash. Car now running rough with a louder than normal diesel rattle. It now has no power at takeoff but it goes through the gears normally 1st to 4th (it is an auto). Slow to go up hills but gets there.

I just put a new AMC head and new gaskets, Fuel Pump Regulator and top hose on the car 2 weeks ago as well as an Enginesaver.

It was running so smooth too, I was so pleased with it. BUGGER!!

I was going to say the same thing. If you have replaced them with silicon hoses apparently they don't grip as well as rubber ones, even though the don't collapse internally like the rubber ones. The solution is to run some sand paper around the inside of the hose where it clamps onto the pipe. JUST MAKE SURE YOU CLEAN OUT ANY SAND PAPER THAT REMAINS IN THE HOSE.

This happened in the dark, didn't have proper lighting etc.

Forgot to mention that I also put on an EGR Delete kit on the car too, what had happened was the hose that connects to this popped off, the pipe is a little short and it is all being stretched a little, it came with a normal hose clamp, my mechanic has ordered a wider one, should sort it out.

    Phew! Dodged a bullet!!!
