on my Discovery td5 what is the safe Rev Range to work in
i know its red lined around 5000 but i have trouble getting it that high up not that i have ever tried it seems to run out of power at say just over 3000
which in 5th is about 110km, it just seems when over taking it does not want to rev. down low its got heaps of power
Thanks

Why would you want to rev a TD5 very much over 3000 try changing up instead. In an auto 2200 - 3000 appears to be the optimum rev range for power achieving 110k at 2500 when locked up. I'm surprised that a manual does 3000 at 110k.
Outback 1 has a point though.

I know on my Td5 D2 Auto the box upshifts at 4200rpm ..... can't get it to any higher rpm than that ....
I don't see much point in anymore than 2800-3200rpm.
2600-3000rpm is a nice range to work in.

Thanks for reply i also find the 2800rpm to 3200rpm is a good range
you could run a stall test on it just to make sure

Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
Assuming stock tyres/ratios etc, the Manual Td5 should be around 2700rpm at 110kph. Fifth gear should not be used for overtaking as this is probably the weakest gear in the box. 4th handles full torque and power much better and can also pull 120-125kph before needing to shift up.
For quickest acceleration, shifting around 4250 rpm gives the best results in a manual. Beyond this and the engine torque drops off and you gain no further benefit. When overtaking on country roads I always drop to 4th and will complete the pass staying in 4th. A tuning box or remap makes the Td5 great when overtaking and makes for more relaxed driving (a remapped Td5 can accelerate quicker in 4th than a stock Td5 in 3rd).
Best for the engine life then changing to keep revs between 2000-3000rpm seems best as this is where the most torque is produced.
But definitely nothing to be gained going above 4250rpm even if it can hit 4750-4800rpm.
