It might sound obvious. But are you sure you removed the o-ring in the side of the engine before fitting the new one?
Did you replace the top hose as well? Is the leak possibly coming from the hose instead? Mine was brittle at the fitting where the rubber was crimped.
or.... if fitting the fpr with the inlet manifold in place, the 'o' ring on the sealing face can easily dislodge and fall out without the installer knowing. Also, remember that there is a small long thin filter behind this 'o' ring that fits snugly inside and if it has accidentally fallen out, the 'o' ring may not seal against it, meaning the 'o' ring will not compress properly and may not seal, in turn causing a diesel leak.Quote:

Well after getting my mechanic to refit the o rings,gasket and reg again it was all good for the trip back home. Today I started it up to go get some coffee, drove it for about 5 mins to the supermarket and noticed diesel smell again. On closer inspection there was a trail of diesel from home to car park.
Looks like I'm heading in the direction of a lr genuine kit. No idea what the problem is with it.
I used the eBay repair kit probably more than two years ago now and no diesel leaks since...

Or perhaps a leak from the rear of the car? When my FPR was leaking the diesel smell wasn't that bad. But when it leaked from the worn though fuel line (Green one out of the fuel pump) it leaked far more fuel and the smell was bad. There was also a residue of diesel on the rear window.

A fair assumption would be(allowing for that the FPR kit was installed correctly), to perhaps look a little sideways or out of the box for the leak elsewhere, than what has already been repaired correctly.
eg oil at the bottom of the bell housing could be coming from: the rocker cover, the FPR, the main bearing seal, the cam plug at the rear of the head. A leaking FPR can look like an oil leak. See attached picture(not my photo).

Accept my answer or don't. I'm not to worried. I do all the work on my vehicle and recently on a drive from Warwick to Hervey Bay, back and some other driving Got 990Km out of the tank. I must be doing something right. :D :BigThumb:

I tried the ebay FPR and o ring fix - still leaked. Changed the gasket, still leaked.
Replaced the whole FPR and block with genuine and all good.
Sometimes the cheap fix is not the best fix.
All sorted now, a loose fuel line on the cooler will do that every time. Replacement regulator and kit is doing its job for now.
