    alternative intercooler

    Hi all
just been messing around with cheaper i/c alternatives. Bought a decent quality bar and plate i/c , got fabrication fim to make reducers / brackets up although they used mitre joints on inlet / outlet when they were asked for proper bends . oh well bolted it in anyway and got some figures:
aap : 968.5 , boost: .5 bar , coolant temp:84.1 , pre i/c boost :7psi air intake temp: 44.2 ambient air temp :25 air con off , flat road , no wind , this is an improvement on old d2 i/c of 6 degrees and >1psi , also seat of pants improvement , same road and conditions ,my question is can anyone with a d2a or performance i/c give me any figures under very similar conditions to see whether i could have just bolted in a d2a i/c . car has very mild remap (soon to change) , de egr,d , removed centre muffler and match ported head , any info would be much appreciated, i/c will be coming out again after xmas to get inlet / outlets done properly so can only improve from here , sorry for long winded post

How much did that set you back? I just bought a performance intercooler for my Td5. I haven't recorded any figures from the Nanocom, but it does feel a little bit better. I think I may have even lost a around 2psi if that's possible?

That's going from my external boost gauge. Mine is also remapped and de egr'd, with a center muffler delete. I'll be watching this thread with interest as well. Do you know if you need to have the computer tweaked at all after the intercooler upgrade? By the way how the hell is your engine so clean?

Ha ha , I recycle all the oil leaks through a filter and spray the clean oil over the engine , nah , only did the head 4 months ago.
Intercooler cost $200 , fabricators $150 , couple of hours re- jigging to fit . did you fit your boost gauge pre intercooler ? , another way to gain info is if anyone with these gauges wants to post aap, air intake temps
and ambient temperature , I could compare mine with that temperature.
Also would be helpful in determining if its time for an intercooler clean
if we get a few figures to go from
    Cheers
