As for upgrade if you have maintained the vehicle well and know it it doesn't make sense to pick up and old d3 that you can't be sure about...then you will know what overcapitalisation is...

    Update

Thought you folk might appreciate an update on this thread. Well, after looking out for a good D2 for some time, I've come the conclusion that spending money on my current old girl is the way to go. So, It's turned into a project - some of you may be familiar with this phenomenon

I'm down to a 5.0 litre long motor from TRS or the same from Bruce Davis.

Let you all know how the install goes!

That's what I would have done.

I don't know how much you're spending, but let's say 5K. As it is, your current vehicle is probably worth 2 to 3 K. So, in purely economic terms, if you went out with 7 to 8K to spend, what would you get? You already know and trust your current vehicle, and installing a better motor will give you heaps of satisfaction - what value do you put on that?

Sounds good my friend, & don't worry about the cost of fuel, it's the cheapest part of running a vehicle, unless ya're doing a guzillion miles etc.
A 5L engine sounds good, but what about a 5.7 Holden stroker,..crankshafts are only about a grand, & that would give you huge torque.

I agree. But $5k all up might be a bit shy of the mark.

I cant wait to see the outcome of the 5l...ooohhh...it may have high flow heads...we might be talking 300+hp?

I am excited enough - I have a 4.6, 9.35:1 going in soon. Married to my 5 speed manual and free flow cats and exhaust I cant wait to drive it!

    Cheers

I reckon it will go pretty damn good. And sound sweet doing it
My brother has a 5L Rover motor in his SD1 and it sounds awesome. One of the best V8 sounds I've heard. And it has heaps of low down torque. Cant wait to hear how you go with it.
