Thread: Very intermittent starting issue.

The best would be to plug in a tester to see if there are logged fault codes ... it can be due to many reasons, one of them is erratic fuel temp sensor signal(the sensor in the FPR)...but there could be various other things too, without reading fault codes first it's a kinda guesswork IMO

Ah yes, of course. I have a nanocom and it doesnt log any faults. I forgot to mention that!

Had the same last night. Suspect it may be the security system stopping it from starting due to another rf signal being received and not recognised. Locked and unlocked it - good to go.

I was thinking maybe it had something to do with security. I was planning on switching off the immobilizer using the nanocom. But Ill keep it on now and see if your fix works for me whenever it reoccurs.

I doubt that the immobiliser has anything to do with that cos immobilised = no crank, the main relay (R9) if it's contact gets weak and doesnt close all the time would let it crank but not start so maybe putting in a new one to rule it out would be a good move... this one is suspect cos there's no fault code if it happens and a bad relay can be affected by heat... it's a possibility


or when the symptom occurs next time dont insist to crank it more times after the first failure just swap relays R9 with R8(heated cscreen) and try then, if it will start right away you have your answer

Ah ok, for some reason I thought the immobilizer would let the car crank but not start, I have no idea where I got that idea from. Ill keep the relay idea in mind for whenever it happens again.

TD5 or V8?

I had that problem once upon a time, mine's a TD5. It turned out to be oil in the loom.
