    Keeping rear door open

I have parked on sloping ground and have opened the rear door (aka tailgate - the one with the spare mounted on it) of 2000 Series 2 TD5 only to be in fear of the door swinging close and cutting me in half.
Does anyone know how to keep the door open with a strut or any other mechanism?

Open tailgate fully, drill 6mm hole in check strap , as close to the drivers side of the checkstrap as you can and as close to the door as well , insert pin punch , job done .?.......or park the other way round

I thought the bar on the door had a elongated hole so when the door was full open it stays there.
