    Windscreen replacement

Finally had to happen I suppose,
Probably the only part I haven't replaced---

Lots of threads with differing ideas

anyone like to put forward the definitive "How To" guide, including parts?

At least mine will be covered by insurance

you will want to have every bit of trim from around the screen despite what the installers tell you it will break unless it has been replaced recently. Also try and get them to supply a genuine screen,Mine isnt and it clearly is not a good fit.

I hope your insurance company pays up. I have windscreen cover with AAMI and they wouldn't pay as I made the mistake of telling them I didn't know the date that it was broken. (It was hit by a rock but didn't crack until sometime later.)

Mine got hammered in the hail storm in Brisbane end of last year, resulting in the car getting written off, but still quite drivable. Insurance paid out the car, which I kept, and I got the windscreen replaced - only cost $220 fitted.

As said above, the trim under the windscreen is now cracked, but I'm not sure whether that happened in the storm or by the cheap installer Result was that it leaked into the footwell when it rained, but a bit of RTV silicone seems to have fixed that up. Now that the Disco resembles a golf ball, I'm a little less worried about aesthetics. If you're on the road, you may want to make sure they have the bits and pieces available when fitting the windscreen just in case.

    yep, Genuine.
    Trim, will ask installer.

I will probably have to go with a "name" company as any faults may be found a long way from here--

wasnt there some talk of the bonnet coming off?

my insurance supplied a new plenum for mine but not the side strips as the installer said they definatly wouldn't break them, when i dropped it off i told the installer that there were spares on the back,He gave me that idiot landrover driver look and said they were not needed,The spares were fitted when i picked it up.

A1 Windscreen did mine recently. Cost $220 fitted. The bloke on the phone new exactly how to remove the trim and explained to me how to do it.

I actually removed the plastic trim myself before they replaced the windscreen. The windscreen seems fine to me so far after 1 month.

The plastic trim was broken from the previous time the windscreen was replaced. It really is not a good design and not necessarily the installers error if it breaks. However I would suggest removing at least the A pillar covers before the installer comes, as you will likely take more care being your own car. It can still be driven without the trim.

It might also be a good idea to park it in the sun for an hour first. That way the plastic might flex a little more therefore make removing the trim easier.

Karcraft were cheap for the genuine top seal. Make sure the screen isn't tinted at the top. Mine cost $280 plus top trim. Cheers Matt

You need to remove the bonnet to successfully remove the bottom plenum . It's only 4 bolts the bonnet is alloy so very light. I did it on my one, but 2 people is better. The A pillars will generally snap the plastic retainer that the clip attaches too. I don't think anyone has successfully removed an aged A pillar trim without some damage.
    Cheers,
    Mario

I've managed to remove the trim covers without damage several times with care. However a good tip for reattaching is to remove the clips from the plastic trim (where they usually are after removal) and fit them back on the pillar prior to refit, it makes the job much easier and you are able to get the trim rubber tight on the screen this way.
