    Squealing noise

    Hi all,
This afternoon when I started my 2003 Disco TD5, turned the AC on and accelerated, there was a loud squealing noise. I turned the AC off and the noise was gone. The engine wasn't cold, it had had a good run an hour and a half before. I tried a couple of hours later and the same thing happened. It does not happen if I turn the motor off and restart. It is only on the very first start-up after an hour or so of driving. I believe mine has to do with the A/C because if I turn the A/C on right after a start up is the only time it happens. Any thoughts? Is it something I have worry about too much?
    Thanks!

If the a/c belt is a little loose the sudden revving of the engine causes the pulley to squeak on the belt. A quick way to check is to start the engine and give it a quick rev. If it squeals spray a little soapy water on the belt and try again. This usually causes the squeal to disappear. I would probably renew the belt but if it is good condition then retention the idler pulley. Jim

Can you manually tension the idler pulley?

Thanks everyone. I sprayed some anti-squeal spray on the belts and it hasn't happened so far. Let's see how it goes!
Many thanks for all your replies 😊

If I were you I would be checking that the condenser fan for the aircon is not FUBAR.

If the head pressure of the aircon compressor gets too high it will create a big drag on the accessory belt and also puts a big drag on the dynamic balancer which is mucho expensive.

My RRC once could not be started with the aircon on as the drag overcame the starter!
It is not normal for the aircon to create enough drag to cause the multi belt to squeal,so look at the above and/or whether you need a new belt and/or tensioner also.
