What you've experienced is just one of the D2 features.
I usually get another 10 litres in after the first click off.
Just a quick question please.
when I refuel my TD5 fueling it normaly , when it seems full the fuel guage is still on the 2nd bar from full , to get it all the way to full you have to trickle fill it for another couple of minutes to get another 8 or 9 litres in so guage says full.
I don't believe the gauge is faulty as I wouldn't be able to get so much in by trickling .
Would the breather cause this as until then it fills fine its just that last bit that's the problem, as ive only had it a couple of weeks I haven't run the tank right down yet to see how much it takes to get to that level.

Ok thanks for that, I have had cars in the past that had that issue , just wanted to make sure rather than cleaningg the breather for no reason
I think this is a TD5 rather than D2 issue. I had a V8 and this was never a problem. I'll be looking at my tank in the next few weeks.
Other information is that i did a test and got about 195km after low fuel light, part of testing if the issue was gauge or tank.

One thing I have noticed is that often you can get " foaming ", for want of a better word, where the diesel fuel , on entering the tank, seems to create a foaming effect, which gives a false reading to the nozzle, and cuts it off. Almost as though the pressure of the fuel going in is too great. Or the inlet hose is too small. I'd be careful running your tank too low, fuel returning to the tank can be quite hot, as a general rule, I use 1/4 of a tank as my empty. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
It is actually intended that the fuel cutoff leaves about 9 litres for expansion when you fill the tank. The vent on the tank is in such a position that it cuts off the pump at that level.
AFAIR the drivers manual says never to overfill, however if I am an a long trip and starting straight away after filling , I add the extra 9 litres to brim it.
Naughty I know , but no ill effects so far and that extra 80Km may be the range you need.

That sounds like it would be it.
I had fuel light come on last night so filled up this morning and pump cut off after 66L so dribbled in another 10L to brim it and breather isn't blocked as when fuel came to top of filler before it dropped back down you could just catch sight of some fuel coming out of breather hole at top of filler so will just do what Philip does from now on and now that I know whats what I wont have to run it till light comes on again

I've noticed the same problem. Believe it or not, if you use the high flow diesel pump you don't have to trickle as much to get the last of the fuel in and it is easier to do so. I think this is because the high flow diesel pumps also suck the air out to minimise foaming.
Just my experience, but give it a shot see if it works for you.
