    Oil Warning Light

    Hi all.

Yesterday, after never seeing it before, the oil pressure warning light has started illuminating on my D2A V8. The car has about 148,000 kms on it.

It doesn't come on when you start it (e.g. Not on at idle), but once you start driving it illuminates, then stays on until you switch the car off, after which it is off until you put her in Drive and start moving again.

It stays on solidly and does not go out. If it was an oil pressure issue, I would have expected it to go on and off, according to revs. Having said that, I'm new to Discos....

I initially checked the engine oil level as soon as it came on, and it is fine. Could this just be a faulty sensor or a loose wire? What should I check?

Hope I haven't started a new thread for no purpose, but a forum search didn't find anything.

If there are no rattles or undue noise id say it could be a loose wire or a faulty sender .
Realy you could fit up a oil pressure gauge to see what oil pressure it is running but if a sender is cheap enough you might as well fit a newie if the wire coming off is not the problem

most likely its the oi pressure switch.

the internal seal has failed and after a short time oil gets on both sides of it cancelling the pressure difference so the srping is able to take over and close the contact.

when you turn it off most of the oil drain back out. allowing it to work for a little while after initial start up.

the confirmation of this being when the switch begins to leak out of the spade connection.

Thanks guys..... those sound like just the symptoms I'm getting. So, once I locate the sender, I need to check the spade connection for oil weeping around it? No probs..... I'll check the manual for the location of the sender unit and have a look. I had a look on Rover Parts, and depending on which one it is I need, they range from $10-27, so that's pretty good
