    ZF Finned Sump

Well, it's time for a silly question.

Does anyone make an aftermarket, alloy, finned sump for a ZF transmission on a Disco 2???
Seems to make complete sense to me, compared to all the cutting, chopping and re running of pipes that is the 'norm' in seeking lower transmission temps.

    Cheers,

    Jason

There you go Jason a business opportunity for you. Get the oxy gear out and bronze weld some fins to your existing sump.
I haven't heard of any, even heavy transport with auto boxes don't have them do there is probably no real benefit.

The automatic transmission is that large item in between the transfer box and engine...

No, there is no aftermarket replacement sump pans with cooling fins for the ZF AT. As for the benefit of such an item you would need to look at the fluid movement in the box and see where the hot fluid is actually going as I believe it goes from the TC into the cooler lines and then from the cooler into the sump, so it's already been cooled externally and additional cooling may be redundant - remembering that the auto wears quicker if it is overcooled too...

Has any one actually posted before and after heat temps? The fins on those pans are not very long so would have minimal heat dissipation from the limited airflow under the chassis. The small amount of extra oil would doubtfully also heat up with the other oil in the system.
Looking at Heat sinks used on PCs, the fins are large, fine and have a fan that draws airflow through the fins. I would be interested in some actual temp figures. We have been asked by many if we can supply these, but I am a bit skeptical that they give any great benefit.
    Cheers,
    Mario

and they don't fit v8's supposedly

anything would help take the edge off.

i use brid's AW10 to drop the temps on my drive train...

knocks the noise down on the series ii as well.

exactly how much cooler i cant tell you but if it is knocking the noise down then it is definitely dropping friction / heat down imho.

    ..

I'm aware of that, merely pointing out there is one for the transfer case. Besides, I have a manual, I like to drive, Bob

Not that I'm aware, I have one sensor for the well tempered temp. monitor on the transfer case, I'm willing to do before & after temps, in the name of research, if one could be supplied....Bob
