    TD5 turbo rebuild kit

    I've searched turbo rebuild kits on AULRO and many people have done it, it would even appear some have converted to a VVT in the process. But only one person put a link to Turbo Technics.

    Where else can you purchase turbo rebuild kits? Surely someone in Aus sells them.

    I noticed these guys and I know someone who used a new one on a Nissan with no issues.

    Anyone else got any tips? I sent Turbo Technics a e-mail asking if it is possible to rebuild my turbo with a kit and turn it into a VVT, waiting on a response.
    I'm in the process of rebuilding my engine and it was suggested I consider rebuilding the turbo too. The engine has done approx. 290,000 kms D2a.

    Unless you are planning on getting a turbo specialist to fit that kit I would leave alone , as you will,probably snap or distort the shaft enough to put it out of balance upon removing impeller nut. If you want to replace the cartridge , you may have to pay an extra $150 or so but is an easy job and comes with impeller already balanced , look on eBay land rover td5 turbo chra

    Thanks Mate,

    Please forgive my ignorance when it comes to turbos. Would I still need gaskets and bearings to fit the cartridge? Is it a matter of opening the turbo, putting the cartridge in and closing it again?

    You may need oil return pipe gasket if it doesn't come with the kit, but that's pretty much it , mark both sides so it goes back the same ,
    Pretty easy job really , probably 5 out of 10 difficulty

    It is only money. It is illegal to deface or burn it. Therefore it has no other use but to be spent... and taxed

    It would be catastrophic if my turbo failed and the engine sucked in fragments and undid all the work I've done.

    The turbo will happen after the transfer case and front prop shaft, assuming I have money left to spend.
