    Re: Storm Series D2 Vehicles

In my opinion it's overly expensive and over the top.
To my way of thinking it is a toy. 4" Lift and 35s aren't designed for getting milk or fitting in car parks, which to my way of thinking moves it more into the dedicated off road vehicle or a comp truck category, which is a toy. Not saying having a toy is a bad thing!
However, No one is going to comp a full bodied d2 as it'd look like rubbish after one track. So removing that option leaves offroad weekender. Cool. Lots of nice bits in it but again, still a toy. And it has modifications that I don't really see the point of other than purely for the sake of modifying.
Nowhere did I say it wouldn't be well built, or an impressive vehicle, but to me it seems over the top.
Trust me, you're hard pressed to find a more biased D2 fan boy, however for it to be a fair comparison between D4 and a storm series you'd have to spend equivalent amounts on both vehicles. My comment was in regards to a vehicle with accessories rather than mods, imagine what you could do with $150k worth of mods to a D4.
You're reading into this as if I've got some personal beef with Andrew or lra in general, or that I'm against modding d2s, which couldn't be further from the truth, I just don't see any value for money in dropping 150k on a purpose built d2. There are easier and cheaper ways to build a comp truck and easier and cheaper ways to build a dedicated hard core off road d2, for me this exists on a shining pedestal of over the top expenditure.
So what now, do I go and flog myself with a td5 drive belt in penance for daring to offend the d2 hordes?
Lighten up, life would be boring if we all liked the same thing. If you're happy with your expensive d2 then that's great, enjoy it.

As a moderator you come across as being very immature in the way you word things Muppet. But that's just my opinion. There's no need to call it a **** or whatever. I'm sure if one of us as members, said it was a ****ing piece of **** we would get a smack on the bum for it by a mod.

Sorry, I'll keep my immaturely worded opinion out of it
And no you wouldn't, nothing in the rules about saying something like that unless you dodge the swear filter.

    No?
You did worse, you refered to someones passion and lifes work in a derogatory way which is not cool and couldn't be further from the truth, if he wanted to build show ponies, it would be paint/interior and shinny wheels and a big lift, like what you see all over the states, everyone has thier opinion and thats cool but associating these builds with that type of car is downright offensive.

Sure, I'd say it to his face if he asked, I've no issue sharing my opinion with him. I'd tell him I'm sure its well built and capable but to my way of thinking its a bit of a **** tank. Just my opinion.
Perhaps you'd like me to capitalise this.
IN MY OPINION it's extravagant ****.
And yes mate, it IS a toy. Sure as **** won't be a daily drive or used for getting milk at the shops, which means its either a dedicated off road vehicle or a comp truck. Toy.
Lots of nice bits in it but again, still a toy. And if you're into spending 150k on a weekend toy well then to my way of thinking you're not afraid of letting people know how deep your pockets are.
Nowhere did I say it wouldn't be well built, or an impressive vehicle, but to me it screams of 'look at me I have a 4wd with $150k worth of mods look at my shiny storm series badge, yes you can look at it up close in the car park'
So is it a Comp truck, dedicated offroad rig or a carpark dweller? You mentioned it could be all 3 there.
To say its either a comp truck or a dedicated offroad rig means you know nothing about the storm series, they are built as the ultimate do anything 4wds.
I would 100% daily drive a firestorm, I couldnt think of a better car to drive between A and B.
They are the ultimate do anything truck, fast, reliable, safe, good looking, shopping trolley, weekend hard tracks truck, you could even take it to the track or drags if you where that way inclined, its also a long distance tourer and after all that pull up to your favourite nice hotel and not look out of place.
So your case that it is a toy was that its a comp truck, no its not, also that it was a dedicated offroad rig, no its not, its not a dedicated anything, Although they are certainly fun cars, they are not Toys.

Please go in to LRA look at a Firestorm build and take one for a drive(as i have) and call it what you said above, I would love to be a fly on the wall.

You have to buy a D4 first so your up over 220k, your missing the point about the D4, its not about what accesories you can add to a D4 thsts endless, its legally what you cant. Also becuase of the increasingly technical nature of new landrovers, there is a limit to what landrovers these storms will be built from becuase at the forefront of every build is reliability. Try to fit a bodylift, LSA and 35s to a D4 and integrate it and engineer it and make it reliable enought to cross the simpson.

Is buying a brand new shiny100k landcruiser and spending 50k on it building a show pony, most people will say no! So why is building a D2 or a RRC into a firestorm suddenly a way to flash youve got money down at the local carpark? I think its a smart alternative to the some of the "4x4s" available at the high end of the market.

If someone really wanted to flash money or show they have deep pockets, they would go buy a black AMG Gwagon on 24s. 250k driveway no more to pay, your show pony comments would make sense if this thread was about one of these.

A large part of maturity is expressing your opinion without offending or using words that are commonly used to offend, and no using stars in place of these words is in no way different to using them, its just a loophole.

You do realise the forum has an automatic swear filter which automatically converts things to stars and to dodge them is an offence?
And I'd argue maturity is not being worried about people on the internet using 'offensive' words and accepting that not everyone likes the same thing
However, this argument is pointless and going in circles.
So allow me to say, they're nicely built cars, although I don't find the concept appealing and as such have no interest in acquiring one
    Happy now?

    Also.
Do the Td5 storm vehicles have the chassis extension? Listed for the V8s but not the Td5s.

Update. I've edited my posts in order to bring a more 'happy' discussion of these vehicles about. I'm sorry if I've offended anyone

    I'm not serious
However when I looked at the diesel powered vehicles (yes I know how to use the LRA website) it wasn't listed, but then I did have trouble loading the page to begin with.

TD5 Storm would be like going to a top steak restuarant and ordering a green salad with no dressing

...hopefully not a storm in a tea cup.

Unfortunately I can rarely get the LRAutomotive websites to open up - their server must crash a lot with all the interest.

Putting aside the bespoke options, I will say this - if I could buy a brand new Td5 D2a manual, with the only option being ACE for $50k today, I will do so before spending $80k on a new D4. D4 is very nice, but the D2 is a classic.

I think what we are seeing here is recognition of the potential for a well set up D2 to be an iconic vehicle. You see a lot of this happening in the U.S., UK, and across Europe when vehicles become classics. Some people spend as much on upgraded Defenders as you can spend on RRS in the UK - so must be some people with cash for toys.

...and I will bite, give me a remapped Td5 any day over a V8. There is something just so wrong and good when you have a quick diesel.....😈
