    Exclamation Storm Series D2 Vehicles

Saw this on the Les Richmond Automotive ( Les Richmond Automotive ) website - Les Richmond Automotive

Looks like some very capable D2's on offer, but a lot of money!

    Fire Storm - petrol V8 model - http://www.stormseries.com.au/conten...99_-_2004.html - if you've got a spare $100,000.00 you can have a 430HP donk in there!

    Wind Storm - TD5 - http://www.lrautomotive.com.au/conte...mseries.com.au

    And there's the rub!
Dollar for dollar compared to a new vehicle, they are outstanding value. But only to a niche market.
Buy a decent D 2 for $10k and spend another 10 on it and you have 90% of a D4!
Get a late d2a with ace and bells a whistles and spend 10k and you are 95% there.
But that is the game isn't it?
    Cheers, BDave.

Did you look at the pricing of them? They start at around $45,000.00 before you start ticking option boxes. That's a significant difference to your $10,000.00 examples.

    The ultimate RR Classic?

You could easily spend $150k on a d2 in this range.

I wasn't suggesting that I could builds a storm equivalent for $20k, just that you could have quite a capable vehicle for that money. IIRC the storm vehicles are as new with substantial strengthening and rebuilt everything. That then makes then new car competitors in my mind and need to be compared as such.
    Cheers, BDave.

Look like a checkbook offroaders toy to be honest.
Sure, you get a brand new vehicle with every box ticked if you want.
    Or.
Do as Dave says, get a good base for $10kish, put in some spanner time and learn to drive it properly without all the toys and add bits as you need them.
    Or.
If you want to spend $150k.
Buy a D4, every option ticked should actually see you some (small) change from $150k, or get a mid range spec and spend your extra change on offroad bits.
Sad fact is the D4 outperforms the D2 in damn near every way, except it's less painful when you dent a D2.

I wouldnt spend the dough either way but lets be realistic the storm d2 with its engineered increase in GVM, extended range fuel tanks, strengthened chassis, LS3 engine and bespoke drivetrain, big lift and passing the lane change test would cock its leg on a d4 in just about every way

In terms of reliability the storm d2 would be miles ahead.

    Cheers

Those guys know what vehicles are reliable and what are not...

Read between the lines re a d4 here

    http://www.stormseries.com.au/contents/en-us/terms.html

Actually you dont have to read between the Ines. The faulty brake switch disabling the whole car that he speaks of on the storm page is a d4 discussed here... https://m.facebook.com/lrautomotive/...24898331030942

    Cheers

Sad fact is the D4 outperforms the D2 in damn near every way, except it's less painful when you dent a D2. Then again, if I'd forked out $150k for one of those schmancy wankmobile D2s I'd probably have a fit if I dented it.
Check book offroaders toy? Simply put, No

These are not toys and the people that buy them are looking for quality of product and use LRA becuase there is no one better in the world at building this type of car.

Go and see one in person and you will change your tune very quickly.

Storm Series are turn key builds that combine the accumulated knowledge of approx 30 years of reliable LandRover building.

They are a completely modified, legal, good looking and reliable builds.

There is a reason why they dont use the newer Land Rovers, Too many computers, too many sensors and an engineering nightmare. D4's are an awesome truck for the average 4wder, however the firstorms would outperform them in just about every area all day long.

You mention worrying about denting a 150k vehicle, its all relitive, if you had one you could afford to fix it and you would have it insured with choice of repairer, just like any new 4x4.

As for your coments after schmancy, would you say that to Andrews face? Lets keep the discussion mature.
